It looks like I will have to put away the Sole Hope project until I graduate because I have other things I need to focus on. I really loved doing this project! Cutting the jeans was an odd type of stress relief for me. Tonight I was able to make four more pairs of jean templates for the shoes. All together there were 26 pairs of shoes made! I look forward to presenting this wonderful organization and project to the class on May 12th.
I have reached my new goal of 20 pairs shoes!! Now I just need to work on my outline and presentation.
So far I have been able to cut 10 pairs of shoes! I really enjoy cutting the fabric, and usually pop in a movie for the sound. Somehow it is relaxing for me, and I have been looking forward to coming home and cutting the jeans. My goal was to make 10 pairs of shoes, and the goal was reached. I decided to make another goal and make 20 pairs of shoes!
Britlee was able to donate three pairs of jeans toward Sole Hope, so THANK YOU BRITLEE! Your pairs of jeans will now be able to help 6 different children protect their feet from painful jiggers also called sand fleas.
It was such a nice day today that I was able to go on our back porch and cut the fabric. Each shoe requires 6 different pieces of fabric, so a pair of shoes contains 12 pieces of fabric (and plastic heels).
Two pairs of shoes were cut today from one pair of jeans. One pair of jeans is the perfect amount of fabric for two pairs of shoes! The templates were cut then traced on card-stock for a sturdier outline. The process has begun, and jeans are being cut!
I went looking around my house for jeans, so I might not have to spend money to buy them used. I ended up finding jeans in our family closet that we were planning to give away for hand-me-downs.
I hope to go to the World Wide Mission Store this week or weekend to get more jeans for the shoes. If you don't know about the World Wide Mission Store, it is a huge thrift store that gives its proceeds to WorldWide Missions Outreach Ministries (http://worldwidemissions.org/). The mission store can be found at this address: 301 N Congress Ave, Evansville, IN 47715
I just ordered the 10 Person Shoe Cutting Party Packet from Sole Hope. The packet was $15 dollars, and I hope to order a T-shirt from them as well. The next step for my 20 Time is to find a group of people to help me make the shoes.
